THE MAN WHO GAVE COUNTRY MUSIC “A BETTER MAN” IS IN THE HOSPITAL TONIGHT — BUT HIS TEAM SAYS HE’S GOING TO BE OKAY. Clint Black was supposed to be onstage this Friday night, July 3, at Pearl River Resort in Mississippi. Instead, the 64-year-old country legend is recovering in a hospital bed after an infection in his tonsils became serious enough to require emergency IV antibiotics. His team says Clint is “on the mend,” expected to make a full recovery, and should be discharged later this week. The show has been canceled, and full refunds are being issued. For fans who grew up on “Killin’ Time,” “A Better Man,” and that smooth, steady voice that helped define late-’80s country, the news hits a little harder. This year was supposed to be a milestone one. In May, Clint released his memoir, looking back on the long road, the music, and the life Lisa Hartman Black encouraged him to finally put into words. Tonight, the stage can wait. Get well soon, Clint. Country music still needs that voice.
