37 TEAMS SHOWED UP LAST YEAR TO HONOR A MAN WHO’S BEEN GONE 6 YEARS. THIS SEPTEMBER, THEY’RE DOING IT AGAIN. Joe Diffie didn’t just sing about family. He lived it. His son Tyler was born with Down syndrome. For years, Tyler went through First Steps — a Nashville program for children with special needs. And from 1992 to 2004, Diffie personally hosted golf tournaments and concerts to raise money for that same organization. Then in March 2020, he was gone. Two days after testing positive for COVID-19. He was 61. But what his sons did next says everything about who he really was. Parker and Travis brought back The Diffie Classic. This September 21–22, the second annual event returns — golf at 12 Stones Crossing in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, a live concert at the Nashville Palace, and every dollar going right back to First Steps. The same cause their dad carried for 12 straight years. They just picked up where he left off.
