LIONEL RICHIE’S OPENING NIGHT DID NOT GO AS PLANNED — AND FANS ARE PRAYING AFTER WATCHING HIM FALL ILL ON STAGE. The 77-year-old legend was performing at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Wednesday night with Earth, Wind & Fire when something suddenly changed. About 55 minutes into the show, during “Dancing on the Ceiling,” Lionel began feeling dizzy. He sat down on the stage steps and tried to make light of it, telling the crowd, “When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down.” Then came the line that made fans realize this was not part of the show. He said he had never performed that song sitting down before. Lionel moved to the piano and gave the crowd “Three Times a Lady,” but shortly after, he called for an intermission and left the stage. He never returned. After a long wait, saxophonist Dino Soldo came out and told the audience Lionel was not feeling well and would not be able to continue. It happened just days after Lionel turned 77. For a man who has spent decades giving the world joy, love songs, and memories, this was a scary moment. Tonight, fans are not asking for another encore. They are just hoping Lionel Richie is okay.
